Maccabi Haifa - Maccabi Netanya 4:1

30th fixture of the Israeli Premier League: Maccabi Haifa hosted Maccabi Netanya at Sammy Ofer Stadium. The visitors took the lead during the first half, but a great performance by Maccabi in the second half secured 3 very important points. Atzili (57’, 59’), Saba (85’), and Abu Fani (90’+5’) scored. The gap in the table increases to thirteen points from Tel Aviv, and eight from Beer Sheva, who will play against each other in two days.

Maccabi’s line-up: Josh Cohen, Daniel Sundgren, Abdoulaye Seck, Dylan Batubinsika, Pierre Cornud, Mohammed Abu Fani, Tjaronn Chery (C), Dia Saba, Omer Atzili, Dolev Haziza, Din David. 

 

Kick Off 

 

6’ Haziza receives the ball at the left edge, advances towards the box, and shoots from 20 meters, but the ball goes just next to the post. 

 

12’ Atzili takes a free kick from 22 meters, he shoots the ball to the far top corner, but it goes slightly over the target. 

 

17’ Abu Fani provides a brilliant incisive pass towards Saba who is left alone in front of the goalkeeper, he chips the ball over the goalkeeper, but the ball misses the frame. 

 

19’ GOAL. Bilu crosses the ball into Cohen’s box, and Zlatanovic shoves it in. 0:1 for the visitors. 

 

37’ Chery tries from 28 meters, but the ball goes wide. 

 

40’ Abu Fani shoots from the left edge of the box, but the ball goes above the crossbar. 

 

45’+3’ Chery leaves the ball to Saba who passes it to David inside the box. The latter shoots the ball, hits a Netanya’s defender, and goes straight into the goalkeeper’s hands. 

 

Second Half 

 

49’ Haziza and Saba exchange passes just outside of the box, eventually, Saba enters the box and shoots with a single touch, but the ball goes over the crossbar. 

 

52’ Cornud crosses the ball into the box straight to Batubinsika who heads it above the target. 

 

54’ Haziza crosses the ball into the box from the left flank and finds David who shoots with a single touch from close range, but the goalkeeper is alert and denies the attempt. 

 

56’ GOAL! Once again Haziza crosses the ball into the box, this time Atzili jumps high and heads the ball in! 1:1

 

58’ GOAL! Sundgren crosses the ball into the box, David shoots it, and the goalkeeper blocks it straight to Chery who shoots, once again the ball is blocked, Saba reaches it first and shoots powerfully, but the ball is cleared from the line, Atzili reaches the rebound, remains focused and rolls the ball to the bottom corner! The comeback is completed in a couple of minutes! 2:1 for the Israeli champion.
