Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Tel Aviv draw in Netanya

The Greens grab a valuable point away at Maccabi Tel Aviv as the match ends 0-0.

Guy Luzon’s team came into Matchday 5 ready to take on Maccabi Tel Aviv in Netanya after taking six points from the first four matches of the Israeli Premier League. The home side came into this match with nine points after the first four matches. The Greens looked to continue their good form after scoring four goals in their last match.

The match began both teams looking to find their rhythm. In the 6th minute, Shlomi Azulay was fouled and Neta Lavi was forced to come in as Guy Luzon’s first change of the match. The opening minutes of the match were defined by fouls and many stoppages in the play.

The first clear chance of the match came as Maccabi Tel Aviv flicked a header on frame, but the ball hit the outside of the post. Then, in the 13th minute, Rukytsya had the first chance for the Greens as he carried into the box and had a shot, but the ball was saved and was put out for a corner. Omri Glazer made a quality save in the 17th minute, denying Maccabi Tel Aviv a good opportunity.

In the 21st minute, the home side has another opportunity, but again, the ball struck the right post and was cleared by the Greens defense. In the 31st minute, Neta Lavi got a piece of a header that almost snuck into the top corner, but went just wide of the goal.

Tal Ben Haim was shown a red card in the 43rd minute when he took down Rukavytsya after he went past him looking to win the ball. After playing on the back foot a majority of the match, the Greens were presented with an opportunity up a man to take advantage for final 45 minutes of the match. The two sides went into the break goalless and Maccabi Haifa with a man advantage.

Just before the second half, the second change was made for the Greens as Caio came on for Kostadinov. The second half began with Haifa keeping possession and finding some chances, but Tel Aviv looked dangerous on the counter attack. Well into the second half, Maccabi Tel Aviv didn’t look like a side that was down a man and kept attacking the Omri Glazer’s goal.

In the 69th minute, Greek international, Klaus, came on the pitch for Omer Demari as the last change for Guy Luzon. Then, in the 78th minute, after a spell of possession, Sallallich had a strong shot that was saved by the Tel Aviv goalkeeper, Rajkovic. Minutes later, Omri Ben Harush was shown his second yellow and sent off the pitch, making match 10 v10 for the remaining eleven minutes.

Glazer came up with a huge save in the 85th minute using his foot and denying former Haifa player, Eliran Atar, to keep the match scoreless. But, neither side was able to break through and get on the score sheet and Maccabi Haifa returned to the Carmel with one point.
