Maccabi Haifa draws at Maccabi Petah Tikva

After trailing 2:0 with goals from Cohen (’14) and Solomon (’56), Maccabi Haifa climbed back to equalize behind goals from Rukavytsya (’62) and Kehat (’70).

The Greens travelled to Petah Tikva for Matchday 7 of the Israeli Premier League for their first game since the latest international break. Haifa entered the match with ten points after playing only six matches.

Before the start the match, thousands of Haifa supporters filled the Moshava Stadium in Petah Tikva, creating a great atmosphere while playing on the road. In the 14th minute, Manor Solomon swung a ball in from the right wing and Lidor Cohen was able to get a touch on it to put it past Omri Glazer, giving the home side the advantage 1:0.

In the 25th minute, Mabouka’s cross found the head of Klaus, but it was put over the bar. Only four minute later, Mabouka tried his luck from inside the box with a powerful shot, but it was also just over the goal. In the 31st minute, Luzon made his first change of the match with Nikita Rukavytsya coming on the pitch for Ofir Mizrahi who left injured. With continued pressure and chances in the remaining quarter of an hour, the Greens could not break through the home side to equalize.

The second half opened with a free kick from Caio in the 49th minute. The free kick was taken well and forced Gigi into an uncomfortable save with his feet, putting the ball to Kehat, who couldn’t manage a threatening shot. Five minutes later, Tade received his first yellow cards. Then, Solomon doubled the home side’s lead with a goal in the 56th minute.

Just as it seemed the match might be getting away from the Greens, Sallallich took the ball down the right side and crossed it for Rukvytsya. The substitute did not hesitate and put the ball in the back of the net, brining the Greens within a goal of the home side. A minute after the goal was scored, Tade received his second yellow, and subsequent red card, gifting the Greens a man advantage. Luzon then used his second change brining on Gili Vermouth in place of Sallallich. The newest substitution made an instant impact when he crossed the ball to Kehat, who then scored the equalizer. The last switch for Haifa was made when Mohammad Awad was brought on in place of Klaus. Maccabi Haifa was able to finish the match out, showing determination and character to climb back from a two-goal deficit to secure a point on the road with the final score of 2:2.
