Maccabi Haifa beats Bnei Sakhnin 2:0

Ben Harush (’45) and Demari (’61) each score to win at home 2:0

Maccabi Haifa took on Bnei Sakhnin in Mathday 10 of the Israeli Premier League at Sammy Ofer. This match comes one week after Haifa’s disappointing loss to Kiryat Shmona. Guy Luzon’s side looked to bounce back and find their form in a pivotal match up against the team one place ahead of them in the table.

The match began with both sides playing conservatively. Then, in the 13th minute the Greens had their first dangerous opportunity. Caio was able to cross the ball into the box from the left flank and Vermouth got a touch on the ball, but could only put it into the hands of the Sakhnin goalkeeper, Kanadil.

In the 20th minute, Dekel Keinan had a goal controversially called back, though the replays showed the goal should have stood. Just before the end of the half, the Greens won a corner. Mabouka sent the ball in and Ben Harush found the cross and put the ball in the back of the net, putting the home side up 1:0 going into the break.

The second half began with a chance for Haifa as Demari broke through in the 52nd minute, but he was caught by the Sakhnin defense. In the 59th minute, Rukavytsya came on for Sallallich as Guy Luzon made his first change. Minutes later, Mabouka sent a ball in from the wing and Omer Demari was able to head the ball into the goal to put Haifa up 2:0. In the 66th minute, Luzon made his second change with Neta Lavi coming in for Mabouka. The last change was made in the 70th minute, when Neta Lavi was injured and Dos Santos came onto the pitch. In the 71st minute Kehat had a strong shot, but Kanadil put the ball out for a corner. The Greens were able to keep the shutout and win the match 2:0.
