The Greens traveled south to take on Hapoel Be’er Sheva in Matchday 15 at Turner Stadium in Be’er Sheva. Maccabi Haifa was coming off a long break after their last match that ended in a 2:0 loss to Bnei Yehuda. This was the second match under coach Rob Maas.
Maccabi Haifa began to pressure early on the match. In the 3rd minute, Sallallich beat his man down the flank and hit a dangerous cross, but the Haifa players in the box where unable to capitalize on the chance. In the 5th minute, there was an error between Omri Glazer and Rami Gershon, when Glazer picked up a ball passed back by Gershon, resulting in a free kick well inside the box. The Maccabi Haifa defense was able to hold, clearing the danger on the kick. But, in the 10th minute, Ohana had a shot deflected by Dos Santos past Glazer to put the home side up 1:0.
After the opening minutes of pressure from the Greens, Hapoel Be’er Sheva began to gain possession and create dangerous opportunities. But in the 25th minute, the Haifa played their way back into the match, keeping possession and creating opportunities in the box, forcing Hapoel goalkeeper, Haimov, off his line to make a play. In the 33rd minute, Ofir Mizrachi was forced on to the pitch to replace Maor Buzaglo due to injury. The injury came as a disappointment for Buzaglo who was eyeing the return to his former side. In the 41st minute, Sallallich again got down the flank, sending a ball in to Rukavytsya, but the striker was unable to find the target. Maccabi Haifa played their best football at the end of the half, creating multiple chances, putting the home side under pressure.
The opening minutes of the second half started out as both teams sat back in their halves. In the 51st minute, Gal Alberman had a nice break through the middle of the pitch, but final shot from Awad did not find the back of the net. In the 58th minute, Gal Alberman had a great chance from the top of the box as the ball was laid back to him, but his shot went wide of the goal. The Green kepts creating intricate build up play with accurate passing, but the final shot was still to be desired. In the 68th minute, Omer Demari replaced Awad for the Greens for the second substitution of the night for Maccabi Haifa. One minute later, Sallallich had a shot from the top of the box that was just centimeters wide of the post. In the 86th minute, Gili Vermouth replaced Mabouka for the Greens, showing Haifa’s intent of pushing for the equalizer. But in the 87th minute, Nwakaeme scored Be’er Sheva’s second goal of the match putting the home side up 2:0.
