Maccabi Haifa entered Matchday 21 of the Israeli Premier League in Jerusalem as they took Beitar Jerusalem. The Greens were coming off a draw last weekend and new manager, Fred Rutten, looked to grab his first win in the Israeli Premier League before a mid week match up in the quarter finals of the State Cup.
The Greens opened the match with possession and looking to build up from the back to create chances, winning the first corner of the match in the 5th minute. In the 9th minute, Omri Glazer came off his line and went feet first into a Beitar striker, giving the home side a penalty kick. Glazer made the save on the ensuing penalty kick from Shechter, keeping match tied 0:0. In the 27th minute, Sallallich had a shot from twenty-five meters out, which Beitar goalkeeper, Klaiman, was well positioned to make the save. In the 35th minute, Ofir Mizrachi collected a rebound resulting from Klaiman’s save, and from the top of the box, he hit strong shot into the corner, putting the Greens up 1:0. Just before the whistle, Beitar Jerusalem equalized with a goal from Varenne.
The half opened with a goal from Beitar Jerusalem, when broke through the defense and put his show past Glazer in the 53rd minute. In the 55th minute, Rutten used a double change when Demari and Azulay replaced Klaus and Mizrachi. In the 69th minute, Shechter scored a goal from inside the box, putting the home side up 3:1. In the 75th minute, Rukavytsya replaced Gal Alberman, in Haifa’s last change of the match. In the 89th minute, Rukavystya received a ball into the box, but he wasn’t able to get enough power behind the shot to beat Klaiman. Haifa wasn’t able to come back from two goals down and the home side won 3:1.
