Maccabi Haifa traveled south to take Hapoel Tel Aviv in the State Cup. Rob Maas, Assistant Manager, was looking to get his side the away win and back on track to finish the season strong and get through to the final eight in the State Cup.
The Greens began the match on the right foot and looked to create chances early. In the 11th minute, Haifa had a break and Mohamad Awad passed to Rukavytsya who carried the ball and then scored to put the visitors up 1:0. In the 17th minute, Awad broke down the right flank beating his man, but his shot was sent out for a corner. The Greens kept pressuring and minutes later created another chance with Azulay and Sallallich connecting. In the 27th minute, Haifa was whistled for a hand ball in their box and Hapoel Tel Aviv was awarded a penalty kick and Or Ostvind scored the spot kick to equalize. The half ended tied, with both sides looking for the go-ahead goal.
The second half began with no changes from either side. In the 47th minute, a collision between two Hapoel Tel Aviv players occurred as they were going to head the ball. Resulting in a head injury, this forced Yadin to be replaced by Daniel Gertz in the 52nd minute for the home side. In the 54th minute, Rukavytsya crossed the ball through the box, but Kehat could only put it just wide of the post. In the 57th minute, Ofir Mizrachi replaced Shlomi Azulay for the Greens. In the 72nd minute, Omri Glazer made a fine save to keep the match tied. In the 94th minute, Awad aimed his header just wide of the post. The match ended 1:1 and forced overtime.
The extra time began with Haifa using their last substitution as Klaus replaced Awad in the 91st minute. The extra time ended in a draw bringing penalty kicks to decide the winner. Maccabi Haifa won the match on penalty kicks as Omri Glazer made one save and each of the Greens scored their kick, winning 5-3.
